I'm sure this is now completely obsolete, but it kinda explains why in the world of engineering people use multiple DAWs. I remember when I started using DAWs in the mid naughties the lazy generalisations were.īuy Logic if you wanna be creative with the DAW and use it as an instrument, buy Ableton if you wanna incorporate your DAW into your live playing (or record in a live setting) and buy Pro Tools if you're recording lots of real instruments. Yeah I forgot about Alchemy but that's an amazing plug-in.

Ironically, when I bought Logic, I bought it because it was cross-platform, trying to hedge my bets.

It's hard to find a better bang for the buck if you're a Mac user. (I had the pre-Apple version as well)Įven the stock compressor has gotten quite good. Sculpture may take a while to get your head around, but is quite capable.Īlchemy is a wonderful recent-ish addition. Later versions have the much easier to use Sampler, which is patch compatible. In the question 'What are the best DAWs ' Bitwig Studio is ranked 3rd while Pro Tools 2018. The EXS-24 sampler is worth the €200 alone. When comparing Pro Tools 2018.7 vs Bitwig Studio, the Slant community recommends Bitwig Studio for most people.

The plugins that come with Logic are all at least usable, and in many case outstanding. The advantage of Logic is it has the best in-house plug-ins.
